Faith and Mental & Emotional Health

Within the Church we have far too few conversations about the intersection of mental health and faith. However, neither Jesus nor the Bible are silent on the matter. We should not be either. Matt & Sara can help your church and community through the challenges of tackling these topics and loving others well.

Through personal stories and insights gained from their own journey, Matt & Sara’s professional and personal experience offers a unique perspective on coping with and living with mental illness in a Christ-centered home. Sara works as an individual and couples therapist, and Matt has experienced the challenges of living with bipolar disorder.

They are passionate about creating a safe and inclusive space where individuals can share their stories and feel supported in their walk with Jesus. Together, they provide engaging and thought-provoking talks that explore a range of topics related to mental health and faith, including:

“My Soul is Sorrowful to the Point of Death”: What God Has to Say About Depression Matt shares the power of Jesus’ words on the night of His betrayal, as well as his own story of encountering God in depression.

In Pursuit of Peace: Nurturing Gratitude in the Midst of Anxiety: There is a lot of anxiety in our world today. Often when we deal with our own anxiety, well-meaning people quote scripture to us saying, “Do not be anxious about anything!” as if ridding ourselves of anxiety was just that simple. But God has more to say on the subject. God’s word aligns with modern cognitive behavioral therapy techniques and helps us counter-balance our anxiety with faith and gratitude.

When Marriage and Mental Health Collide: Through personal stories and insights gained from their own journey, Matt & Sara’s professional and personal experience offers a unique perspective on coping with and living with mental illness in a Christ-centered home. With a deep understanding of the challenges and struggles of mental illness, Matt and Sara are able to provide faith-based insights and practical advice to individuals, families, and spouses.

Does God Care? God is willing to meet us in the throes of grief, and experience our sorrow alongside us - even while pointing to the hope of resurrection. Walk through and embrace your grief on the road to hope and healing.

The Intersection of Faith and Mental Health: Faith can provide comfort and hope to those struggling with mental illness. Our goal is to increase awareness of how spirituality can play an important role in maintaining good mental health in conjunction with medical and therapeutic intervention.
